You may not be able to get a computer off the average retail shelf in a colour or shape that will turn heads, but that doesn't mean you can't have one if you're willing to invest a few bucks, some time and a dash of creativity. Apple realized this and started adding some flashy colours to its machines for a while, but even this visionary hardware developer has fallen back largely into a white plastic mindset. While manufacturers sheltered us from any risk of sensory overload, there's more to life than black and off-white. Manufacturers eventually realized that people might like a bit more variety, so they did something revolutionary and suddenly we could get machines in. For years, PCs came in one colour: Bland blah beige.
